Out of 118 students scheduled to make their commencement walk Friday evening as the school’s 92nd graduating class, these 20 earned 4.0 cumulative grade point averages —the largest number with straight “A’s,” according to their principal, Kurt Keller. Commencement is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and is tentatively to be held on Dutchmen Field. However, if rainfall comes as predicted later this week, the ceremony will likely be moved indoors, said Keller.
Due to a lack of a quorum, last Tuesday’s Planning and Zoning meeting was canceled.
Don Stewart, the head of the group, came in only long enough to turn in his code book and his resignation. Edna Weatherford and Corb Lunsford also said they would no longer serve.
Lunsford was due for reappointment June 1. Stewart and Weatherford had both accepted positions that would run until June 2015.
Marla Larsen-Williams told the 43 Bland residents Monday evening “the main concern is getting the Bland Main Post Office back in operation.”
Lersen-Williams visited sites in town this spring during two prior visits. Larsen-Williams said the decision to return to the damaged site was a relatively simple one to make once all factors were considered. “We know the landlord,” she said. “The site has utilities and parking.
A few years ago, on the spur of the moment the way I make must decisions, I decided to retrace part of historic U.S. Highway 66, the Mother Road, returning from a 12-day stay in Springfield. I had been there to relieve my brother who was caring for our mother. He needed a well deserved break from those duties and headed off on his Harley almost as soon as I hit the front door.
The first day of school for this next school year is scheduled to be August 14. We feel this is entirely too early to start school. For one thing the middle of August is about the hottest time of year. People still have summer plans, vacations, etc.
As the school year begins, everyone is wondering what they need to be able to make it through the year. Freshman are most worried about this because they have never been in High School, so they’re going in without any idea of what a teacher usually wants you to have. Reading this carefully should prepare you for a good year of school.
