‘Realistic’ computer simulation used in fire training

Owensville Fire Chief Scott Stranghoener (left) and Capt. Martin Schlottach are debriefed by University Extenion instructor Michael L. Arnhart after running the command post for a simulated computer fire exercise on Aug. 4. As incident commanders, Stranghoener and Schlottach communicated via two-way radios with their tanker, pumper, and rescue squads located behind closed doors. Arnhart continuously stressed commanders had to have clear and concise communication with their personnel to understand what was happening on all four sides of a structure when their view was of only one side at any given time. Give assignments and have personnel repeat the orders back to you to confirm they understand the orders, Arnhardt told them. For a look at the course, see page 6.
