Avonell Hesemann

Avonell JoAnn Hesemann, 81, Owensville, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

She was born Oct. 1, 1936,  to Chester and Helen Ruth (Landwehr) Hesemann at Owensville.

Avonell graduated from Owensville High School, attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and received her B.S.N. from Washington University.  She was employed at Deaconess Hospital from 1958-1996. After retiring she moved back to Owensville and resided with her parents and brother Nolan.

She was an active member of New Hope United Methodist Church until March 2014, when her health declined and made it necessary to become a resident of Gasconade Manor Nursing Home.

She enjoyed traveling, working with African violets, quilting, embroidering, Bible studies and reading.

She was preceded in death by parents, Chester and Helen; brother-in-law, Doyle Spurgeon and great nephew, Dean Spurgeon.

She is survived by brothers, Nolan Hesemann and Clyde Hesemann and wife Lynn, all of Owensville; sister, Janice Spurgeon of Raymore; seven nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 28, at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Pastor Lindsay Walters officiating.  Burial was in the Owensville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to family’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville.
