Betty Hamilton

Betty E. Hamilton, a longtime resident of Cuba, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 in Washington, surrounded by loved ones.

Betty Eileen Hamilton (née Weigle) was born Feb. 23, 1927, in St. Louis, and graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis in 1945.

Betty married the love of her life, James L. Hamilton, Sr. March 2, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis. The couple settled in Cuba where they raised their three children; James Jr., Ronald and Cheryl.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and sewing. Betty touched many lives during the years she spent as a leader in the Oak Hill 4-H Club. Betty was also known for her many favorite family dishes that she always seemed to whip up on a moment’s notice. She loved all animals (except snakes) but she especially loved the time she had in the last few years to give her puppy dogs lots of love and always had a couple on her lap enjoying their warmth and comfort.

Betty is survived by her children: James L. Hamilton, Jr. and wife Mary of Cuba, Ronald Hamilton and wife Kae of Hermitage, and Cheryl Hamilton of Washington; grandchildren: Tim Hamilton and fiancé Tara, Todd Hamilton, Troy Hamilton and wife Stacey, DeShae Trasher and husband Mark, Alex Hamilton, Sarah Contarini and boyfriend Mike and Jonathan Contarini and fiancé Brianna; nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Rudolph Weigle and Alvina Weigle Lerbs (née Wirz); her husband James L. Hamilton, Sr.; her siblings Olga Weigle, Sammuel Weigle, Catherine West, Francis Weigle and Hazel Catanzaro.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Betty’s life at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 730 Fleenor Rd., Cuba, Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 with a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM followed by a memorial at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you direct your donations to Heartland Hospice “Hugs” Fund of Washington.
