For Dutchgirl softball, they were looking to win their season opener for the first time in five years.
After traditionally opening against Fatima, Owensville started their
2008 season on the friendly confines of Lion Field against Steelville’s
Cardinals.  Melissa Hollandsworth fires a ball towards first base between innings of Owensville’s 17-2 opening win over Steelville Monday at Lions Field.

Mid- America Acro and Tumbling Team competes at National Championships |

Twenty-three athletes from the Mid- America Acro & Tumbling team traveled to
Des Moines, Iowa from July 25 - 31, to compete at the USA Gymnastics
National Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics. They had three days of
training before events began on July 28.  MAATT team members (from top to bottom) Kaley Brandt, Kaylyn Nowack and Leah Bohl perform their routine in the Level 9 Women’s Group for athletes ages 15-16 at the USA Gymnastics National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

For the 2008 edition of Dutchgirl softball, youth will be prevalent as only six girls on the rosters are juniors or seniors.  Kayla Strubberg (left) and Mandy Raaf (above) will look to help a young Owensville softball team make progress from last season which saw it end in the district semifinals at the hands of Fulton.

JEFFERSON CITY – For the second year in a row, Tour of Missouri bicycle
riders will get a glimpse of mid-Missouri’s scenic countryside as they
race along approximately 115 miles of area roadways. Riders will make
their way throughout Gasconade County on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday,
Sept. 13, during Stages 5 and 6 of the weeklong professional cycling
event which encompasses most of the state.
