Charles Lewis “Chuck” Steffen II, 68, Cuba, left from this life Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, in Crawford County.

He was born Friday, Nov. 4, 1949, to Charles Lewis and Catherine Mary (Menz) Steffen, at Phelps County.

He was united in marriage to Darlane “Kay” Nicholas, Feb. 14, 1976 and they were the proud parents of one daughter, Vanessa. Kay passed away Dec. 9, 1989. Chuck was later united in marriage to Gerri “Kay” Brandon, Nov. 18, 2007.

Chuck proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from July 12, 1968 until July 11, 1972 earning the rank of SGT. He earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Award. 

Chuck retired from Georgia Pacific after twenty-five years of dedicated service. Every morning before work and every evening after work, he took care of his farm, cattle and chickens. He always believed in staying busy. 

He enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and the St. Louis Cardinals ball games. What he truly loved most in life was spending time with his family. 

Chuck was a loving son, brother, husband, father, step father, grandfather, step grandfather, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, great uncle and friend that will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was also preceded in death by father Charles Lewis Steffen; mother-in-law Peggy Brandon; and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Kay Steffen of the home; one daughter Vanessa and husband Rick Damouth of Rogersville; two step daughters: Amber and husband Richard Krider of Quanah, Texas and Kimber and husband Tom Crull of Cuba; three grandchildren: Colton, Charlianne and Caroline; three step grandchildren: Rylie, Dylan and Tristan; his mother Catherine M. Lackner of Cuba; four sisters: Charlene Goodpasture of Vandalia, Carolyn Gibson and husband John of St. James, Connie Warden and husband Dennis of Owensville and Christy Spinella and husband Philip of Manteo, N.C.; father-in-law Jerry Brandon of Quanah, Texas; brothers-in-law, Anthony and wife Jana Brandon and Deric and wife Kaylyn Brandon, all of Quanah, Texas; sister-in-law Jana and husband Darrel Kennon of Vernon, Texas; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba.

Funeral service followed at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dan Morrison officiating. Special recorded music was “Daddy’s Hands”, “When I Get Where I’m Going” and “I’ll Fly Away”. 

Interment and prayers followed at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba. Family served as pall bearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local 4-H Club in Chuck’s memory.
