Dutchgirls sweep St. Michael at Helias’ Central Bank Shootout

Falling to Hermann Thursday and Friday in their respective Gasconade County hardwood showdowns, Owensville Dutchgirl basketball teams coached by Hannah Wehar and Ryan Flanagan competed Saturday in the Central Bank Shootout at Helias High School in Jefferson City.

First up was Wehar’s JV Dutchgirls against St. Michael the Archangel.

Nursing a 22-19 lead after three quarters, OHS outscored the Guardians 17-7 in the final seven minutes to post a 39-26 win.

Netting 14 second-half points, Keira Hendrix paced the JV Dutchgirls with a game-high 20 points. She was followed by Cami Gray with six points.

Leah Reed and Kyla Hendrix each added four points followed by three from Olivia Vandegriffe and two points from Anna Finley.

Kicking off afternoon basketball at Helias, both Owensville and St. Michael’s varsity squads hit the hardwood against each other.

Leading 14-8 after one quarter, Flanagan’s Dutchgirls outscored the Guardians 47-25 the rest of the game before posting a 61-33 win.

Including a 4-4 day from the 3-point line, Finley led OHS and all scorers with a game-high 16 points. She just missed a double double dishing out eight assists.

Breanna Diestelkamp followed closely behind with 15 points and a game-high six rebounds.

Kate Angell also flirted with a double double scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds.

Liana Miller and Anna Skornia each chipped in six points for the victorious Dutchgirls.
