Dutchmen wrestlers take third at Ste. Genevieve Duals Tournament

Getting a sneak peak at the site of the upcoming MSHSAA Class 2, District 1 Wrestling Tournament in February, Rod Barndollar’s Owensville varsity Dutchmen wrestlers competed Saturday in the 7th Annual Ste. Genevieve Duals Tournament down in Dragon country.

Following a bye in round one, OHS opened their portion of the tournament in round two with a dual against the host Dragons.

Falling by a team score of 51-28, Owensville got wins from Austin Angell (120 pounds), Dustin Jahnsen (145), Tanner Rector (160) and Colton Moore (182) against Ste. Genevieve.

After a lunch break, Owensville faced Fulton’s Hornets in round three.

Getting wins in seven matches, OHS was able to hold off a traditionally strong Fulton squad by a team score of 42-40.

Scoring victories against the Hornets were Angell, Dustin Jahnsen, Blaine Schoenfeld, Rector, Caleb Gray (170), Moore and Dakota Martin (220).

A familiar foe awaited the Dutchmen for round four in St. Clair’s Bulldogs.

Seeing St. Clair take the dual by a 48-22 team score, Owensville scored victories from Dustin Jahnsen, Rector, Gray and Joe Bauer (195).

Finishing the tournament in round five against Dexter, Owensville defeated the Bearcats 45-27 to take third place in the tournament.

Dutchmen grapplers scoring victories against Dexter included Tighe Bombach (138), Dustin Jahnsen, Schoenfeld, Rector, Gray, Bryce Mistler (285) and Angell.

Dustin’s brother Kolby Jahnsen wrestled in two matches before suffering an injury in the dual against St. Clair. Martin also suffered an injury in his match against St. Clair.

Owensville will host their annual varsity tournament on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Owensville High School beginning at 9 a.m., and lasting throughout the day.
