Eighth Rock Island Run completed

Twenty-seven runners and walkers (shown above along with organizers)participated in the eighth Rock Island Run, sponsored by the Gerald Area Chamber of Commerce, last Saturday.  By the time the pack made the first turn (right), they had already separated into distinct groups. Two women who grew up in Gerald came home for the race Heather (Riggins) West is shown leading the group (left) and Kathy (Garlock) Howard is second from the right. David Koppelmann also came back to Gerald to record the fastest time.  Winners in the their age divisions were: 9 and under  Jordan Erlanger, 10-14  Braedn Stone and Kaden Henson, 15-19  no runners, 20-29  David Kopplemann and Elli Brant, 30-39  Steven Halker and Jill Berron, 40-49  Patrick Meyer and Crystal Harbath, 50-59  Bill Gerth and Jerri Gerth, 60-69  Diane Erlanger and Kathy Gregory and 70-79  David Riggins and Carol Kuhlmann. Carla  Hackstedt has organized the run for the last three years, along with Jason Crowe and Kelley Angell. She will turn the reins over to Heather Erlanger for next year’s run to be held  May 4. Proceeds from the run help the Chamber maintain their historic Rock Island Depot and also help fund two scholarships they offer to local high school seniors.
