Florence Wells

Florence A. Wells, 76, Belle, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Westphalia Hills Retirement home. 

She was born Nov. 2, 1941, to Raymond Ridenhour and Zelma (Ficke) Jones, in Belle.

She was united in marriage to Martin Schalk in 1957. They later divorced. She later married Ronald Wells, Nov. 18, 1978.

Florence had been employed many years at Brown Shoe Company in Owensville. She also worked as a cook at several restaurants throughout the area including the Dinner Bell in Bland and the Donut Shop in Belle. She was an ordained preacher and performed many marriages in the Belle area as well as serving as the clergy at the R.I.D.S. Church in Belle. She attended the Bland school system until the age of 15 when she quit to start a family. 

She was a member of the R.I.D.S. Church, Belle. Her hobbies included reading, playing piano and writing poems and songs. She loved to sing and took time throughout her life to sing in bands, choirs and once on a local radio station. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Martin Schalk and Ronald Wells; parents, Raymond and Zelma; infant son, Michael; infant sister, Carmalitta; brothers, Mack Ridenhour, Charlie Jones, Ronald Jones and Jessi Jones; and sister, Mary Ridenhour Wells.

She is survived by children, Sherree Burkholder of Belle, Marty Schalk of Arkansas and Rainey Schalk and wife Casey of Belle; siblings, Sylvia Dudley, Donald Jones, Linda Fuhrman, Dixie Krettie, Gary Jones, Roger Jones, Danny Jones and Jimmy Jones; grandchildren, Christina Dixon, Katie Burkholder and Erin Schalk, all of Belle, Caleb Schalk and Callie Curtis, both of Arkansas; and many extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. at the R.I.D.S. Cemetery in Linn.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the R.I.D.S. Cemetery fund. Arrangements entrusted to Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle.
