Former OHS runner dies from ATV injuries

Serious injuries head injuries sustained in a ATV crash at 9:54 p.m. May 16 claimed the life of a former Owensville Dutchmen cross country and track runner. 

Samuel L. Blackwell, 19, a 2017 Owensville High School graduate, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. His heart valves  and kidneys were procured for donation.

Blackwell was operating a 2006 Suzuki LT400 westbound on Tschappler Road a half-mile east of Kohrmann Road when he lost control. The ATV went off the road and struck a tree, according to the report by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Clint Mistler. He was ejected. He was not wearing a helmet. 

Blackwell was flown for treatment by ARCH helicopter.

Roll-over kills Dixon man

A rollover crash on Highway 42 Monday night resulted in the death of a Camdenton man and minor injuries to his passenger.

At 9:40 p.m., May 21, Daryl L. Burke, 44, was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria westbound on Highway 42 in Maries County with one passenger, Kory A. Burke, 19, of St. Clair. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol’s report, Burke failed to negotiate a curve, travelled off the left side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting himself. He was not wearing a safety device. 

Burke was flown by Phelps Air to Capitol Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was pronounced dead at 11:49 p.m. by Dr. Charles Judy and  taken to Kidwell Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.

Kory Burke, who was wearing his safety device, had minor injuries and was transported by Osage Ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla.
