Sunday, Nov. 11, the Gerald Lions Club sponsored a service in observance of Veterans Day at Legion Park. A highlight of the ceremony was the reading of patriotic poems by Elizabeth Adams. Adams is a Gerald students at Owensville Middle School. She is the granddaughter of Ed Adams, a Viet Nam war veteran, and she wrote one of the poems herself. It related the sacrifices made by military members as they serve their country. The local Boy Scouts and Venturing Crew also participated in the ceremony. They raised the flags against a gray sky as patriotic music played. The United States flag was lowered to half-mast in observance of Veterans Day. The air was so still, the flags hung limply on the poles. The Lions Club is celebrating 65 years as an organization in the Gerald community.
