James B. “Jim” Gibson Jr., 76, Jefferson City, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by family.

He was born Nov. 18, 1942, to James B. Gibson Sr. and Virginia Mae (Holliday) Gibson, in Jefferson City.  

He was united in marriage to Bonnie F. Jost, Sept. 3, 1966 in Owensville. 

Jim was a lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area and was a 1961 Jefferson High School graduate. He was a union plasterer for almost 40 years, and helped build many buildings in the Central Missouri area. He was a 30 year member of First Assembly of God Church where he had served as deacon and in other capacities and enjoyed his yearly mission trips to Springfield and other mission trips to Central America, South America and Mexico. Jim cherished his daily devotionals and took every opportunity to talk about his Lord and Savior. He was especially proud of his First Assembly of God family and didn’t hesitate to invite anyone to church with him. 

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially rooting for the Mizzou Tigers football team or watching a show in the Branson theatres.  He loved the outdoors, going fishing and camping in his earlier years. Jim was a soft spoken man who was a hard worker, outgoing and very compassionate. He was always trying to uplift other family, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by parents, James and Virginia; father-in-law, Gwynn E. Jost; and brother-in-law, Ronald G. Jost.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Bonnie; daughter, Sherry R. Thomas and husband Dewaine of Jefferson City; brother, Robert L. Gibson and wife Sharon of Jefferson City; mother-in-law, Frances Jost of Owensville; sisters-in-law, Connie Graves and husband Bill of Jefferson City and Ruth Jost of Owensville; brother-in-law, Donald Jost and wife Suzie of Owensville; and nieces, nephews and other family members. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, from 10-11:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City. 

A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Lowell Perkins officiating.  Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City. Memorial contributions suggested to First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City, to help fund mission trips.
