Janet Crook

It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Janet H. Crook announces her sudden passing on June 10, 2018, at the age of 71. She passed away peacefully, in her sleep, while recovering from a heart procedure.

As we reflect on her life, we cannot help but smile about all the treasured memories of laughter and adventure we shared with her.

She was happiest spending time with friends and family, no matter the place or activity. Family events, overseas travel, ATV trips and just staying home watching movies. Janet could make anything into a fun and meaningful adventure. She was a caring and devoted friend and her friends meant the world to her.

She had a deep love for animals and adopted many into her family. Everyone who knew her, and her cat Spirit, wanted to come back in their next life as one of her cats.

Janet was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High.

She married three times sharing different segments of her life with each husband Melvyn Ivie, George McMullen and James Crook. She had three loving children. She worked for the IRS for 30 years, living in Utah and Washington, D.C., before retiring to Missouri. After the passing of her husband, James, in 2013 she moved back to Utah.

She is survived by her mother, Maxine Murray DeVitt; brother, Murray (Elona); son, Dennis; daughters, Danielle (Craig) and Suzanne (Scott); stepson, James Jr. (David); step-daughters, Christine (Michael), Karen, Rebecca (Jason) and Cynthia (Zachary) and her many amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; father, Theodore Hayward and stepson, Randall.

A tribute service will be held from 6-6:45 p.m. on June 22, 2018, at the Midvalley Stake Center, 1106 East 8050 South, Sandy, Utah 84094. After the service there will be an informal gathering for those wishing to reminisce and share memories. Her ashes will be interred at St. John’s UCC Church – Bem at a later date.
