John Dorsey Vandegriffe, 71, Owensville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at his residence.

He was born May 14, 1948, to George and Eula (Johnson) Vandegriffe at Benkleman, Neb.

He was united in marriage to Ivina Withington, May 12, 1978, at Wray, Colo.

John was carpenter by trade and he owned and operated, along with his family, the Vande’s Donut Shop in Owensville for about four years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, water skiing, pitching horseshoes and spending time with family – especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents George and Eula Vandegriffe; and one grandchild.

He is survived by wife, Ivina, of the home; children, Michael Keith and wife Sharon of Amarillo, Texas, Richard Vandegriffe and wife Tandy of Owensville, Dana Gooch and husband Paul of Owensville, Joshua Vandegriffe and wife Shannon of Cuba, Jason Vandegriffe and wife Jessica of Owensville and Taffiney Newbound and husband Joseph of Belle; sisters, Janice Knapp and husband Tim of Atwood, Kan., Penny Cline and husband Alan (Chip) and Pam Vandegriffe all of Colby, Kan.; and 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.
