Defeating Belle 24 hours earlier, John Bunch’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team welcomed another Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) foe to Memorial Field last Tuesday afternoon.

Scoring single tallies in the first three innings, Bunch’s Dutchgirls got a two-run inside the park home run from Katelyn Landolt in the bottom of the fifth inning helping Owensville to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Steelville Lady Cardinals.

“It was a good fight tonight,” Bunch said. “It’s always nice to come back and beat your alma mater.”

OHS wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning.

Freshman starting pitcher Addy Wright helped her cause with a one-out single. She would score when Julie Wright reached on a fielder’s choice to give the host Dutchgirls an early 1-0 lead at Memorial Field.

Striking out the side in the top of the second inning, Addy’s offense added to their lead without the aid of a hit.

Katie Smart led the bottom of the second off with a walk before taking second on a sacrifice bunt from Anna Finley.

Landolt was then hit by a pitch before Caelie Horstmann walked to load the bases.

Ella Wright took one for the team earning a run batted in (RBI) on a hit by pitch doubling Owensville’s lead to 2-0 after two innings.

Steelville got a run back in the top of the third on an inside the park home run by Cristin Foster.

OHS quickly got that run back in the bottom of the third inning.

Julie Wright led off being hit by a pitch before sacrifice bunts from Mackenzie Rademacher and Smart advanced Julie to third base.

Finley walked and Julie wound up scoring on a Cardinal throwing error giving the Dutchgirls a 3-1 lead through three frames.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, Owensville needed a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to add to their lead.

Finley walked and stole second before Landolt blooped a hit down the right-field line allowing her to circle the bases for a two-run inside the park home run.

This game OHS a 5-1 lead through five innings.

Looking for more insurance in the bottom of the sixth, OHS turned to the top of their line up.

Addy Wright walked with one out before Kaylee Abney singled. Both runners would steal second and third respectively before Julie Wright delivered a two-RBI single giving Owensville their final margin of victory.

Addy Wright earned her second win of the season limiting Steelville to one run on six hits with three walks while striking out 10 Lady Cardinals.

In a three-inning junior varsity contest, Owensville got a bases loaded walk-off RBI single from Gabby Bunners scoring Kaitlin Nelson giving Owensville a 2-1 win over the visiting Lady Cardinals in their season opener.

Last night (Tuesday) in Sullivan, Bunch’s Dutchgirls fell to the host Lady Eagles 10-1 at Bank of Sullivan Ball Park on the Sullivan High School campus.

Owensville also fell in the junior varsity game by a 15-0 score in three innings.

Weather permitting, OHS will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks with a 4:30 p.m., first pitch for varsity action.

Next Tuesday, the Dutchgirls will host St. James at Memorial Field also with a 4:30 p.m., first pitch scheduled for varsity softball action.
