Lawrence Picker

Lawrence Albert Picker, 85, Holts Summits, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.

He was born Feb. 28, 1932, to Louis Henry and Ruth May (Licklider) Picker, in Red Bird.

He was united in marriage to Jean Darlene McDaniel, June 8, 1958, at Leduc Methodist Church.

Lawrence served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He received his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1958. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation in 1993 after 35 years of service.

Lawrence spent his time in retirement traveling, visiting family and friends, going to Mizzou football games, watching his granddaughters play softball and basketball and playing music and going to bluegrass festivals. 

He was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Ruth; wife, Jean Picker; brother, Melvin Picker; brothers-in-law, Edward Scheel Jr., Raymond Michael and Eugene Houseman.

He is survived by children, Keith Picker and wife Charlene of Port Orchard, Wash. and Karen Howard and husband Ricky of Fulton; grandchildren, Christina Picker, Amanda Howard and Taylor Howard; sister, Norma Thomas and husband Gerald of St. Charles; sister-in-law, Susan Picker of Simpsonville, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Rev. Lindsay Walters officiating. Burial was in Leduc Methodist Cemetery near Red Bird.

Memorial contributions suggested to Leduc Methodist Cemetery.
