(Lindenwood) Belleville bound Bunt

Helping the Owensville Dutchmen football program win 20 games over the last two seasons, former senior center Garret Bunt will be playing his college football for a team at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Signing with the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx, Bunt will be playing for a gridiron team that has not won a game over the last two seasons.

“I’m ready for the challenge of helping the Lynx becoming a winning football team,” Bunt said. “After helping Owensville win 20 games over the last two years, I’m excited for the challenges ahead here in Belleville.”

LU-Belleville is a member of the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA).

During OHS’ record-breaking 12-1 season when Bunt was a junior, he was on an offensive line that helped a Dutchmen offense run for 3,037 yards and pass for 2,450.

That same line also produced 85 touchdowns with 45 coming through the air and 40 on the ground.

With 5,487 total yards of offense during the fall of 2016, Owensville’s average offensive output was over 422 yards per game and 41.8 points a contest.

In limited time on defense as a junior, Garret recorded one solo tackle in Owensville’s 64-20 Labor Day weekend victory over Cuba.

During his senior season coming off Four Rivers and MSHSAA Class 3, District 3 titles, Bunt and his cohorts on the offensive line continued to help the team rack up ridiculous numbers.

On the ground alone in 2017, OHS nearly equaled their total offense from 2016.

Highlighted by a Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and OHS school record 712 yards rushing against Pacific in a 60-21 home victory.

That game alone accounted for one-sixth of their total yards rushing.

Churning up 4,222 yards on the ground, Dale Long’s Dutchmen offense averaged just over 351 yards rushing a contest during their 8-4 season last fall.

Seeing time at defensive tackle in five games as a senior, Bunt recorded three solo tackles twice during the season opener at home against Potosi and in their week-two showdown at Eldon.

Garret also recorded single-tackle games at Cuba, in their regular-season loss at St. James and in their 70-53 district championship game loss on the road at Eldon.
