Lorene Rebecca Jost, 100, of Webster Groves, Mo., passed away Wednesday, February 27th, at Laclede Groves in Webster Groves.

She was born on August 1, 1918, on a farm north of Gerald, the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Witte) Rohlfing.

Lorene was united in marriage to Leo E. Jost on Nov. 30, 1940, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Gerald.

After Leo’s service in the Marine Corps during WW II the couple moved to St. Louis where they raised a family.  Lorene was a devoted and caring mother and housewife who believed in strong family traditions.  She was an accomplished cook and a gracious host.  Her faith was strong and the family attended the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Webster Groves where she sang in the choir.  She had an adventuresome spirit and loved to travel here and abroad.  She kept her love of being in the “country” near the family farm where she could enjoy the fruits of the land throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Kathryn Rohlfing; husband, Leo Jost; brothers, Raymond Rohlfing and Wallace Rohlfing; sisters, Valana Sievers and Melba Kahle; sisters-in-law, Fern Rohlfing and  Dora Rohlfing; and brother-in-law, Wesley Sievers.

She is survived by her sons, Gordon Jost of Owensville, Jerry Jost and wife Ruth of Ladue, and Dennis Jost and wife Ellen of Webster Groves; brother-in-law, Harvey Kahle; and by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 2, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald  with Rev.  Leon Pannkuk officiating.  Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Gerald.
