A man was stabbed and killed in an altercation at Whispering Valley Subdivision last Wednesday, July 18.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton reports his deputies responded to an 8:30 p.m. 911 call to the 300 block of Skyline Drive in the rural subdivision. The reporting party stated he had been assaulted by and had then stabbed David L. Haight, 34, of New Haven.

The subdivision is located about five miles north of Gerald on State Route YY at State Route C. Residents there have a New Haven mailing address.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said the altercation began over loud music. The resulting argument was loud enough to be heard across one of the lakes in the community. The resident also said one of the men involved got into a boat to attempt to get closer to the other man. He believes Haight was playing music when the man who stabbed him asked him to turn down the volume. An argument ensued during which Haight allegedly assaulted the man who confronted him.

An EMS crew also responded to the emergency call and declared Haight dead at the scene.

The resident said Haight had been stabbed in the stomach while in the roadway. Blood marks left at the scene indicated that Haight had crawled a short distance before dying.

The man who claims to have been assaulted by Haight has not been identified. He was taken into custody for questioning and later released.

Pelton told The Republican that charges had not been filed in the case as of press time.
