Melvin E. Czeschin, 85, Bethalto, Ill., formerly of Mt. Sterling, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 13, 1933, to Herman and Frieda (Topel) Czeschin.
He was united in marriage to June E. Weidknecht, Sept. 2, 1961, in Mapelwood.
Melvin was baptized and confirmed at Bay Evangelical and Reformed Church and attended several rural country schools. He attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he earned a degree in engineering. He worked at Boeing Aircraft and as an engineer at Olin Corporation, retiring in January 1994 after 35 years of service. He served in the Army Reserves.
He was preceded in death by wife, June; and parents, Hermann and Frieda.
He is survived by children, Melvin Edward Czeschin and wife Lori of Bethalto, Ill., Russell Lee Czeschin of Edwardsville, Ill., and Tracy Lynn Gocal and husband Keith of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Stephanie Lorts and husband Kerry, Michael Czeschin, Josh Gocal and Mackenzie Gocal; great-grandchildren, June Elizabeth and Wesley Edward Lorts; brother, Calvin Czeschin of Oklahoma; and sister, Bernice Smith and husband Bill of Gerald.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Zion Lutheran Church, Bethalto, Ill. with Rev. Willard Meyer officiating and burial in the church cemetery.
