MSHSAA officials commend R-2 coach, athlete

Gasconade County R-2 School District administrators recently received two “complimentary” reports from officials involved with Missouri State High School Activities Association events involving Owensville High School teams.

We thought we would share these after they were included in the Feb. 20 report to the R-2 Board of Education.

The first, from a Jan. 22 girls basketball game at New Haven, comes from referee Adam Falloon.

He wrote: “Wanted to let the Owensville ladies and coaches know that I thought they did a fantastic job this evening. Despite a loss Coach (Ryan) Flanagan did a great job keeping his focus on the girls and coached the game until the very end. Proud to see him in this setting, very mature and handled himself in such a professional manner. He has a bright future in this business! Best wishes to Coach Flanagan and the ladies the remainder of the season!”

The second comes from Matthew Aaron Moore, a wrestling referee, who was officiating a match involving Dutchmen senior Dustin Jahnsen in a Feb. 3 meet at Dexter High School.

Moore wrote: “I would like to compliment the Owensville wrestling program and specifically Dustin Jahansen, their 145-pounder. He showed great respect to everyone (I saw) he interacted with. Dustin had great demeanor with his coaches as well as the opposing coaches, addressed me and the other officials with “Yes Sir” and wrestled with a great sportsmanship. What stood out to me most was during wrestling, he was stopped for a potentially dangerous arm bar against Dexter’s wrestler. Dustin immediately removed his arm and confirmed that his opponent was alright with, “You alright bud?,” before assuming their wrestling positions again. I was probably the only one to hear the exchange, and from what I saw, it was genuine. Owensville should be proud to have Dustin walking their school halls and helping to lead a great wrestling team.”
