OFD Santa on call

Drake Schlottach wasn’t all too fond of Santa during his visit Saturday to the Owensville Fire Department’s Station No. 1 in Owensville. His sister, Lily Sample, tried to calm him to no avail before handing him off her their mother, Heather. Firemen handed out their traditional bags of fruit and snacks along with Kiddy smoke detectors donated by LSC Communications. The children are the step-daughter and son of Martin Schlottach, a captain of the department’s Station No. 3 in Owensville. Volunteer firemen from the stations in Owensville and Mt. Sterling combined had responded to 305 calls as of Dec. 4 and had at least two more calls including  a fire Friday off Tschappler Road and an assist to stranded fishermen at the Held’s Island public access ramp on Dec. 7. Chief Curtis Aytes said 91 calls were in town and 135 were out of town along with 70 mutual-aid assists to other agencies. There were 299 calls in 2016.
