Returning home after competing in tournaments last week, OMS Dutchgirl basketball welcomed Union’s Lady Wildcats for a hoops twin bill Monday night at Owensville Elementary School.
Leading virtually the entire game, Terra Heidle’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls needed late free throws from Kate Blankenship and McKenna Edwards to put the finishing touches on a 35-32 victory.
Taylor Thompson led Owensville with nine points followed by seven first-half points from Anya Binkhoelter.
Blankenship added six markers while Edwards had five points to go along with four apiece from Emma Daniels and Audrey Quilacio.
Racing out to a 21-8 halftime lead in eighth-grade action, Ryan Flanagan’s squad nearly saw that lead disappear in the closing minutes of the game before holding on for a 32-29 win completing the sweep.
Landry Watson paced the eighth-grade Dutchgirls with a team-high 12 points. Kiana Guerrero followed with eight points all in the first half.
Daniels scored five of her seven points from the free-throw line.
Thompson and Binkhoelter each put in two points along with a first-quarter free throw for one point from Abby Terry.
