Owensville skate park proposal becomes fundraising campaign

A fundraising campaign is underway to build a skate park in Owensville’s Memorial Park.

Preliminary design proposals, funded by a $10,000 contribution from the city of Owensville, have been completed and presented to both the Owensville Board of Aldermen and Owensville Park Board. The proposed area for development is along the western edge of the Winter Water Park parking lot and incorporates a section of park where the existing tennis courts are located.

A committee has been formed to develop the park, according to Kyla Walters who has bee instrumental in getting this project off the ground.

Walters said committee members include Dana Hampton (Park Board president), Matt Fletcher, Kevin Lay, Brenn Finley, and Rob Borgmann (Ward 2 alderman).

Fletcher will be doing grant writing on the project, said Walters.

“We do have a committee formed already, but we’re always looking for anyone else wanting to really dive in,” said Walters. “But, most definitely, we’re looking for help, especially getting some funds. We really want the families or individuals to get involved.  The more involved, the more hearts it touches and the sooner we can make this become a reality.”

The Owensville Area Community Foundation, through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, will be managing funds collected for the project. The OACF will also take care of mailing out the tax donation receipts for the group.

There is a skate park Facebook page and there are posts to Instagram and Twitter as well.

“Recently the post we shared on the design to date has reached 9.5 thousand people and had over 5.9 thousand views,” said Walters. “Very impressive.”
