Plans cancelled for June 29 community picnic

While an effort was made to revive the community picnic, a summer staple for many years, their will not be a picnic this year.

A picnic committee, not affiliated with any other group, has taken responsibility of the event after the Gerald-Rosebud Fire Department could no longer do so.

After a poorly attended event in 2014, the committee has not held the picnic since then.

This year a fireworks display was suggested by a local fireworks dealer. They agreed to provide the fireworks at a reduced cost, if the money could be raised.

The committee asked the Gerald Area Chamber of Commerce to help in raising the funds. They did that, and several local businesses and individual pledged to help fund the display. But it was not enough.

The picnic takes a lot of manpower to plan and execute. Requests for help were sent out with little response.

The final result was too little too late. The committee hopes that with more time to prepare, the picnic may become a reality next year.
