Deteriorated road conditions on several blocks of Owensville streets have prompted the city’s Public Works Department to undertake an extensive rebuilding project which includes digging out the “gumbo” mud beneath the asphalt and stabilizing the base with a mesh material. New base rock was being applied to this section of West Monroe as of mid-day on Tuesday. Excavation was in progress early Tuesday in these views looking west toward Fifth Street (above) and east to Fourth Street (left) in the 400 block. Similar work was conducted recently on the 300 block of West Monroe near Third Street. An asphalt overlay will be applied this summer during the city’s 2019 paving contract with Capital Paving.
