The Ridge Church begins Centershot program for youth

Monday evening about 17 youth met at The Ridge Church in Gerald to participate in the Centershot program.

The program is designed for kids in the second through eighth grades. Centershot combines bible study with lessons in archery. The six-week program will conclude Oct. 15.

The Centershot program is designed as a tool to help a church reach out into the community and draw people to their church.

Parents are encouraged to stay and participate in the program along with their children.

Archery was chosen to use in the program because it is a simple sport that can be learned and enjoyed by all ages.

Whole families can learn this sport that they can enjoy together for the rest of their lives.

Bows, arrows and other equipment are all supplied by the church. The archers shoot in a range set up in the church basement.

At the first meeting, basic safety rules were discussed before the children went on to their classrooms for the bible study.

A large group of volunteers were on hand from the church. Their duties range from providing refreshments, to leading a class in bible study, to supervising at the shooting range.

There were plenty of adults present to insure the children would be well supervised during the shooting portion of the evening. Space for the program is limited, but there are still a few open spots.
