A Rosebud couple and a fellow passenger were injured March 13 when the 2018 Ford Escape they were traveling in on Route A in Franklin County was struck as two other vehicles collided in the oncoming lane.
The incident at 6:23 p.m. is attributed to driver inattention and wet pavement conditions, noted the report by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper M.A. White. According to White’s report, Edward H. Linebroker, 78, was driving the Escort south on Route A near Cedar Lane.
Glenda D. Volmert, 44, of Washington was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler and was stopped in the northbound lane on Route A, waiting to turn left onto Cedar Lane, with her left turn signal flashing.
Jacob M. Skyles, 19, of Union was northbound on Route A driving a 2003 Nissan Altima and was “inattentive and failed to notice (Volmert’s) vehicle was stopped.”
Skyles slammed on his brakes and steered to the right on the wet pavement but struck the rear bumper of Volmert’s Jeep. The impact caused the Jeep to cross over the center line and into the path of Linebroker’s southbound Escape.
The Jeep struck Linebroker’s Escape in the driver side door with its front, left bumper, the MSHP report stated. Linebroker’s Escort went off the right side of the road and overturned. Three passengers in Linebroker’s vehicle were injured and were transported by Washington ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington for treatment.
Injured in the incident were:
• Bruce A. Chapman, 68, Rosebud, who was wearing a seat belt, had moderate injuries;
• Mary E. Chapman, 68, Rosebud, was wearing a seat belt and also had moderate injuries; and,
• Glenna A. Linebroker, 73, Rosebud, who was also wearing a seat belt, received serious injuries.
All three vehicles were towed from the scene with extensive to total damage. The report noted all three drivers carried insurance.
