Russell Jany

Russell Joseph Jany, 82, Union, passed away July 23, 2018, in St. Clair.

He was born July 22, 1936, to Constantine Jany and Alma (Davitz) Jany, in Chester, Ill.

He was united in marriage to Jacquelyn “Jackie” Heckwolf, June 25, 1966, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Paderborn, Ill.

Russell graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School in Pinckneyville, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. Russell and wife, Jackie, moved to Union in 1979. He was employed at Schnucks Distribution Center in St. Louis until his retirement in 2002. He had a cattle farm in Mt. Sterling. 

He was preceded in death by parents, Constantine and Alma; brothers, Danny and Earl Jany; sister, Janell Mueth; and one sister in infancy.

He is survived by wife, Jackie; son, Robert Jany of Columbia; daughter, Barbara Hedges and husband Scott of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; brothers, Merle Jany and wife Barb and Cleve Jany and wife Jean, all of Paderborn, Ill.; sisters, Norma Saxton and Faye Parker and husband David, all of Waterloo, Ill. and Nina Gerold and husband Joe of Belleville, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Dianne Jany of Paderborn, Ill. and Diane Boeschert of New Athens, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Paderborn, Ill. with Rev. Jim Voelker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to Mercy-Hospice Washington or the American Cancer Society.
