Ending his Owensville High School wrestling career earning All-State honors with his sixth-place finish at 170 pounds in Class 2 during the 2019 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships, Dutchmen senior grappler Blaine Schoenfeld recent received more accolades.

Coaches from Sullivan, Pacific, Union, St. James and Owensville recently voted on the All-Four Rivers Conference (FRC) wrestling team based on records, head-to-head match ups and where wrestlers finished at state.

Schoenfeld was named to the All-FRC Second Team at 170 pounds while Pacific’s Jay Anding was named to the All-FRC First Team at 170 pounds after finishing second in the state at Class 3 with a 54-1 overall record for his senior season. Schoenfeld ended his senior season with an overall record of 35-14.

In four years of OHS wrestling, Schoenfeld finished with a record of 111-61.

Blaine’s only losses against FRC opponents came at the hands of Anding twice with one coming the Indian senior during the FRC dual at home and again two days later at the Fort Zumwalt South Wrestling Tournament.

Schoenfeld’s first victory over an FRC foe came in mid-December defeating Union’s Dane Fennessey by technical fall (19-4).

St. Clair not having a wrestler at 170 pounds meant walkover victories for the Dutchmen senior during regular-season dual action and at the Ste. Genevieve Duals Tournament in early January.

Also at the Ste. Genevieve Duals Tournament, Schoenfeld defeated St. James’ Lance Ybarra by fall in :35.

Facing St. James again on senior night in late January, Blaine pinned Tiger grappler Donnie Wehmeier in 1:56.

Schoenfeld’s last regular-season bout against an FRC opponent came in a rescheduled dual back on Jan. 31 against Sullivan’s Trey Eplin.

Defeating Eplin by technical fall (15-0), Blaine finished with a 6-2 record against conference opponents.

Blaine’s senior season also saw numerous matches against state qualifiers in all four classes.

Opening the season in a tri-meet with Rolla and Washington, Schoenfeld pinned Colton Franks (Rolla) in 4:56) and Jack Carico (Washington (1:18). Franks and Carico both qualified for state in Class 3 at 182 pounds.

During the 2018 portion of the season, Blaine also defeated state qualifiers from Kirksville (Trenton Gillespie), Father Tolton Regional Catholic (Ben Breitweiser) and Grain Valley (Hunter Newsom).

Nine more state qualifiers crossed Schoenfeld’s path during the regular season in 2019.

It began with him pinning Dexter’s Parker VanSlyke in :23 at the Ste. Genevieve Duals.

Nearly two weeks later at Blair Oaks, Blaine was pinned by Falcon wrestler Kyler Griep in 3:59.

Other state qualifiers facing Schoenfeld included Lucas White (Christian Brothers College), Vernell Hawkins (Hannibal), Luke Slater (Moberly), Eplin, John Smothers (Poplar Bluff) and Hunter Phillips (Centralia).
