Welcoming Southern Boone’s Eagles and Fatima’s Comets to Owensville High School last Tuesday night, Rod Barndollar’s Dutchmen wrestlers looked to end the month of January on a winning note.

Taking on Southern Boone in the first of three duals, sophomore Tighe Bombach started things off for OHS at 132 pounds.

Trailing 10-1 through two periods, the younger Bombach was pinned in 5:34 by Eagle grappler Tyler Lutz.

Recently making his varsity debut, freshman Boston Belk suited up for Owensville at 138 pounds against Austin Skaggs.

Down 10-4 midway through the second period, Belk was pinned in 3:41.

On senior night, OHS’ first senior to see the mats was Dustin Jahnsen at 145 pounds.

Leading 4-1 after one period, Jahnsen went on to win the match by fall in 2:53.

Two more seniors picked up victories just by showing up.

With the Eagles open at 152 and 160 pounds, Dutchmen seniors Cooper Bombach and Tanner Rector both earned walkover wins.

In the next contested match, fellow senior Caleb Gray faced Southern Boone wrestler Parker Boyce at 170 pounds.

Scoring a quick takedown, Gray turned it into a win by fall in :50.

Sophomore Cody Linders (182) and senior Colton Moore (195) were both also unopposed in their respective weight classes.

Joe Bauer was next on the mats for OHS at 220 pounds against Eagle grappler Charlie Smith.

Scoreless after one period, Bauer scored five second-period points to win the match by a score of 5-1.

At 285 pounds, Bryce Mistler was the latest Dutchmen senior to hit the mats against Southern Boone’s Charlie Smith.

Tied at 7-7 after two periods, Mistler grabbed the momentum in the third period going on to win the match by fall in 4:22

With Owensville open at 106 and 113 pounds, the next match for the Dutchmen was senior Austin Angell at 120 pounds against Eagle wrestler Konnor Turner.

Down 4-1 after one period, Angell was pinned in 3:39.

In the last match of the dual, freshman Caden Moss took on Southern Boone’s Zach Varvil at 126 pounds.

Moss turned a takedown at the 1:34 mark of the first period into a win by fall in 1:21.

OHS defeated Southern Boone by a team score of 51-24.

Before the Dutchmen took on Fatima, senior wrestlers Cooper Bombach, Jahnsen, Rector, Gray, Moore, Mistler and Angell were recognized for their hard work in a Dutchmen wrestling uniform.

In the final dual of senior night, OHS took on Fatima’s Comets.

Looking for a 2-0 night, Jahnsen pinned Comet grappler Andrew Mengwasser in :27. Jahnsen also went 5-1 over the weekend between action at Willard and Marshfield.

Cooper Bombach earned his second walkover win of the night with Fatima also being open at 152 pounds.

In the Springfield area Friday and Saturday, Blaine Schoenfeld returned to the mats at 152 pounds after letting the elder Bombach have two wins on senior night.

During his six matches, Schoenfeld went 3-3.

Rector wrestled unopposed against Fatima leading to him going 6-0 in matches at Willard and Marshfield.

Gray pinned Fatima’s Jason Woodruff in 2:21 before also going 6-0 in the Springfield area.

Linders was also unopposed against Fatima before going winless in Springfield over the weekend.

Moore earned his second walkover win on senior night before winning all six of his matches Friday and Saturday.

Bauer dropped a 6-2 decision to Fatima’s Connor Temmen at 220 pounds before posting a 4-2 record in the Springfield area.

Mistler earned a walkover victory against Fatima before going 5-1 at Willard and Marshfield.

Angell and Moss both wrestled unopposed against Fatima helping the Dutchmen to a 54-27 dual win.

Angell did not wrestle over the weekend due to sickness while Moss was 1-5 in the Springfield area.

Pinned in their respective matches against Fatima, both Tighe Bombach and Belk picked up one win during wrestling in Willard and Marshfield over the weekend.

Thursday night against Potosi’s Trojans and Sullivan’s Eagles, OHS defeated Potosi 36-30 before falling to the Eagles 53-25 in wrestling action at the small gym due to a JV hoops twin bill in the big gym.
