Defeating Pacific Post 320 9-1 for the second time in three days Monday night, Steven Kemp’s Rosebud Post 587 A squad found themselves one win away from a spot in the Missouri American Legion Ninth District ‘A’ Tournament championship game.

Standing between Post 587 and a date in the title game was Hannibal Post 55 late Monday night.

Nursing an 8-7 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Hannibal plated four runs to take an 11-8 lead before limiting Rosebud to two runs in the top of the seventh inning and ending their season via an 11-10 loss.

Batting first as the visiting team, Post 587 took full advantage in the top half of the first inning.

Landon Valley led off with a walk before scoring when Jon Saunsaucie reached on an error.

Will Mentz also walked before him and Saunsaucie both scored on a Tyler Perkins two-RBI double.

Michael Steinbeck kept the line moving with a RBI double scoring Perkins.

Hunter Engelbrecht then reached on Hannibal’s second error of the inning before a Charlie Whelan RBI sacrifice fly drove in Steinbeck bumping Rosebud’s early lead to 5-0.

Eli Wilson capped Post 587’s six-run first inning with a RBI double to left field scoring Engelbrecht.

Allowing one run in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second inning, Rosebud suddenly saw their lead over Hannibal cut to 6-5.

After a scoreless third inning, Post 587 added to their lead in the top half of the fourth.

Mentz reached on an error leading off the inning before stealing second and third base.

Following a one-out walk to Perkins, Steinbeck drove in Mentz on an RBI single giving Rosebud a 7-5 led with one out.

Adding to his sac fly in the first inning, Whelan drove in Perkins with a two-out RBI single pushing Rosebud’s lead to 8-5 at the midway point of the game.

Hannibal answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth leaving Rosebud with an 8-7 lead through four innings.

Unable to turn a Mentz two-out single into a run, Post 587’s defense was charged with holding on to their 8-7 lead.

Two walks, two hit batters and a single led to four Hannibal runs giving Post 55 their first lead of the game at 11-8 after five complete innings of baseball.

Behind an inning of scoreless relief from Will Lauth, Rosebud battled through a scoreless sixth inning giving them a shot at a seventh-inning rally to keep their season alive.

Staying in the game to hit for himself, Lauth drew a one-out walk before consecutive walks to Valley and Mentz loaded the bases with two outs for Saunsaucie.

Down to their last strike, Post 587 got a two-RBI single from Saunsaucie trimming Hannibal’s lead to 11-10.

Perkins was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before a fly ball out to the infield ended Rosebud’s season one win shy of the district championship game.

In their first elimination game Monday night, Rosebud faced off against a Pacific Post 320 team that they upset in the first round of the ninth district tournament.

Utilizing a seven-run fourth inning, Rosebud eliminated Pacific 9-1 banging out 14 hits while limiting Pacific to just three.

Overcoming seven walks, Valley pitched five and a third innings  allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four batters.

Scoreless through three innings, Rosebud’s bats came to life in the top of the fourth inning.

Mentz led the inning off with a single before stealing second and advancing to third base on a Saunsaucie ground out.

Perkins then reached on a fielder’s choice allowing Mentz to score the game’s first run.

After a fly ball out to the outfield, a two-out rally ensued for Rosebud.

Engelbrecht and Whelan both singled to load the bases for catcher Austin Long.

Grinding out a seven pitch at bat, Long drew an RBI walk doubling the Post 587 lead to 2-0.

Two pitches later, Derek Brandt delivered a two-RBI single scoring Engelbrecht and Whelan.

Valley then reached on an error allowing Long to score.

Batting for the second time in the inning, Mentz capped the inning with a two-RBI single scoring Brandt and Rehmert giving Rosebud a 7-0 lead.

Brandt and Mentz both scored in the top of the sixth inning putting the offensive cap on Post 587’s 9-1 victory ending Pacific’s season.

Rosebud Post 587’s ‘A’ squad ended their season with an overall record of 8-13.
