Opening the home portion of their schedule Monday night without their leading scorer from last year and several players in Costa Rica, Jordan Palmer’s Owensville Dutchgirl soccer team welcomed Pacific’s Lady Indians to Dutchmen Field for a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) girls soccer showdown on the pitch.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Owensville surrendered four goals in the final 16:36 of the second half before falling to the visitors from Pacific 5-0.

Holding Lady Indian junior Abby Layton to one goal in the first half, Palmer’s Dutchgirls had her contained during the first 20 minutes of the second half before she scored three of the final four goals for Pacific giving her four for the game herself.

Mallory Steele scored the other goal for Pacific in the varsity match.

In a one-half junior varsity match, Owensville nearly erased a 3-0 deficit.

Trailing 3-0 nearly 10 minutes into the match, Dutchgirl freshman Anna Finley found the back of the net with 15 and 10 minutes left respectively.

However, Owensville could not get any closer before falling 3-2.

Friday night in their season opener at St. Clair, it was a match up of not only FRC soccer teams, but a pair of Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 9 teams.

Surrendering late goals in both the first and second halves, the visiting Dutchgirls fell 2-0 in the varsity match at St. Clair.

In the junior varsity match, Owensville returned the favor behind a pair of goals from Finley giving Amanda Parmalee her first win as the JV Dutchgirl soccer coach, 2-0.

After facing FRC powerhouse Union tomorrow (Thursday) night, Owensville will step away from FRC action with a pair of non-conference match ups early next week.

Hitting the road into Osage County, Palmer’s Dutchgirls will face Fatima’s Lady Comets at the Knights of Columbus soccer complex north of Westphalia beginning at 5 p.m., with the varsity match.

Next Tuesday night, OHS will return to the friendly confines of Dutchmen Field for a Highway 28 girls soccer showdown with Belle’s Lady Tigers beginning at 5 p.m., in varsity-only action.
