As they do each year, students at Gerald Elementary have prepared a heartfelt program aimed at honoring military veterans in the community. This year, the program will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium.

Students, who will be decked out in red, white and blue attire, will perform patriotic songs and readings in an effort to thank the veterans for their service.

During the assembly, students often give hand made cards and other tokens of appreciation to veterans in the audience.

Afterward, veterans and other guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments.

The assembly not only provides a way to thank veterans for their contributions and sacrifices, it also gives the students a chance to explore what service to the country means.

The program is open to the public.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Gerald Lion’s Club will be sponsoring a Veteran’s Parade. The parade will be begin on North Main Street, continue down Main before turning west on Fifth Street, then south on Pine before heading west on Sixth Street to Legion Park.

Once at the park, a ceremony will be held to honor those who have served.

A flag raising ceremony will open the program, followed by short speeches and musical presentations.
