Races for seats in Ward 1 and Ward 2 of Gerald’s Board of Aldermen in the April 8, election are now set.
Originally, Ward 1 was to have incumbent Richard Johnson being challenged by Joe McClanahan. However, he dropped out of the race on Thursday, Jan. 17, and Davey DeFrenne filed in his place on Friday, Jan. 18 to challenge Johnson. Ward 2 will see incumbent David Luechtefeld take on challenger James Muir. As of press time, seats on the Gerald Area Ambulance District Board currently held by James Gamache and Richard Baird will continue to be held by the above as no one filed to challenge them in April. Therefore, an election will not be necessary. Residents should also be aware that voting will take place at the Gerald Lions Club located on 120 N. Barnhardt in Gerald instead of The Depot. This change will go into effect with the presidential preference primary to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Voters in Ward 1, Ward 2 and out of town precincts will all be affected by this change.
