In their final home dual of the 2007-08 season, Dutchmen wrestling looked to close their home schedule on a positive note.

Their mission was accomplished as Owensville defeated Sullivan’s Eagles by a final score of 45-21.

Starting the dual at 140 pounds, Dutchmen wrestler Cody Winistoerfer gave OHS a quick six points as he was uncontested in his weight class. In the first contested match of the dual, Sullivan’s Dane Paneitz took on Owensville’s Stephen Turner. Turner gave the Dutchmen six more points by pinning Paneitz in 1:36.

Blake Harrell then took his turn on the mat at 152 pounds against Sullivan’s David Ray. As the first period was winding down, Harrell managed to record a pinfall of Ray in 1:50 to give Owensville an 18-0 lead. Gabe Hollander and Sullivan’s Seth Prior went at it next at 160 pounds. Hollander built an early lead and Prior nearly came back. However, Hollander held on for a 10-8 victory and three more points.

In a rematch from the Owensville Tournament, Jordan Robertson took on Carl Lawrence at 171 pounds. Both wrestlers gave it their all as Lawrence came out of the match with a 6-1 victory.

Brad Landwehr gave Sullivan an additional six points as Owensville was open at 189 pounds.

Wrestling for an injured Ben Barndollar, Aaron Pohlman battled Sullivan’s Ryan Pence at 215 pounds. Both left it all on the mat as Pence pinned Pohlman in 3:57 to narrow Owensville’s lead to 21-15.

Among the heavyweights, Blake Flannery took on Sullivan’s Roger Reed. Flannery recorded a pin of Reed at 2:33 to give the Dutchmen a 27-15 lead.

Both teams were open at 103 and 119 pounds and Sullivan’s Nick Ledbetter added six points to the Eagle’s score as OHS was open at 112 pounds.

Ethan Fernau got those six points back as he wrestled uncontested at 125 pounds.

In the final contested match of the dual, Jeremy Spaunhorst took on Sullivan’s Adam York at 130 pounds. Despite a solid effort by York, Spaunhorst proved to be the better wrestler as he pinned him in 1:19. Brandon Howard collected six more points as he wrestled unopposed at 135 pounds.

During exhibition matches held before the dual, Alex Saebens (160) and Aaron Walker (189) both won their matches while Shannon Bingman wasn’t as fortunate in his match at 215 pounds.

OHS finished the dual portion of the schedule with a road trip to Fatima Tuesday night. Coverage of that dual can be seen in next week’s Republican.
