Springfest Queen to be crowned April 16 at OHS

Owensville High School’s Student Council presents the community’s 23rd annual Springfest celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, to open a weekend celebration the new season.

An evening of music and the traditional winding of the maypole will be highlighted by the crowning of the Springfest Queen. Seventeen OHS students are competing for the title with the winner crowned that evening. The evening begins with a concert by the OHS band and a vocal music presentation by the school’s Troubadours choral group.

Before the queen is announced, fifth-graders from Owensville Elementary School “wind the maypole as in days of long ago in Europe,” said organizers of the event. The event is free and open to the public.

Heather Angell, senior, daughter of Harriet and Mitch Angell of Gerald, is sponsored by Scholar Bowl.
Mikayla Murphy, senior, the daughter of David and Diane Murphy of St James, is sponsored by FCA.
Caitlin Jones, senior, is the daughter of Rodney and Vicki Jones of Owensville and is sponsored by Journalism.
Ciara Shanks, senior, is the daughter of Ruth Rudolph and Tony Shanks of Owensville. She is sponsored by the Art Club.
Lindsey Pohlmann, senior, the daughter of Gary and Joyce Pohlmann of Rosebud is sponsored by DECA.
Maranda Luffman, senior, the daughter of Dan and MaryBeth Schlemper of Mt. Sterling is sponsored by the Thespians.
