There will be one noticeable change for the 2009 Gerald Community Picnic at Gerald’s Legion Park on Saturday, July 4.
Thanks to the generosity of several volunteers, attendees will have a new pavilion to seek shelter and shade from the sun after the old cattle barn was torn down.
“Celebrating Our Freedom” has been chosen as the theme for this years picnic. Food and drink will be available at Legion Park beginning at 11 a.m., for people arriving early. Kicking off the picnic will be the “Celebrating Our Freedom” Parade at 1 p.m. After the parade, there will be a flag raising and a performance of the National Anthem at 2 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, there will be plenty of activities for young and old alike. Along with pony rides for the kids, there will be plenty of games for kids and adults with numerous raffles and drawings throughout the picnic. Among the entertainment at the picnic will be the “Carl Rose Band”, “Lost Outlaws” and dancers from Just For Kix Dance Center in Gerald will provide fans with entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening hours. When the kitchen closes at around 9:30 p.m., there will be a fireworks display for the whole town to see. Picnic goers are also encouraged to stop by and look at the Veterans Memorial that was dedicated this past Memorial Day.
