At approximately 4:10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, Gerald Police received a 911 call for a burglary in progress at 13 Hillside Mobile Home Park.

The owner’s had arrived home and heard someone in their home. The suspect fled out a window when the residents entered the house.

Chief Clyde Zelch says he was contacted by his officers to help with the investigation and to secure evidence.

Several small items were discovered missing including a woman’s ring.

After searching the area, and taking finger prints and photos, a suspect was temporarily detained. Later that same day a 25-year old white suspect was arrested for burglary and stealing.

Zelch reports that once the suspect was confronted with the evidence, he confessed and was taken to the Franklin County Adult Detention Center in Union. Warrants have been applied for.  Zelch notes that the man has lived in Gerald for approximately three months and is currently on probation and parole in Franklin County on other charges of burglary and stealing.

The suspect has also been charged in an earlier shoplifting incident and is scheduled to appear in municipal court to answer those charges on July 8.

Yesterday, June 30, police were notified by a local pharmacy of a suspected forged prescription.

Zelch says the 21-year old white female was given a legitimate prescription for one medication, but she allegedly added a second medication to the prescription. Her physician verified that she had only been prescribed one medication.

Sounds like there is a lot of crime in Gerald. I have faith in the Police
Department that they can handle it.

Sounds like the Gerald Police Department is doing what they are supposed to be
doing... police work. A lot of crimes have been solved recently by Chief Zelch
and his department. Keep up the great work.
