Owensville police are reviewing video surveillance footage in an effort to determine the identity of a white male who broke into JnL2 Meat Market and Bistro and Package Post Liquor Store overnight on June 25.

Two-car crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of Cuba/Springfield and Peters. A Malibu driven by Alex Saebens struck the Nissan driven by Macy Hlavaty head-on. No injuries were reported, said police.

Chief Robert Rickerd said Tuesday that Gerald Chief Clyde Zelch took a look at video footage and had identified a potential suspect described as a transient from the Gerald area. Police were in the process of applying for an arrest warrant on Tuesday afternoon.

Access was gained through a wall facing the alley north of the building. Liquor and cigarettes were reported stolen, according to Rickerd. The thief exited the building through the store’s front door facing First Street. The Republican was told by store owners that the alarm system had been not been turned on the night before to allow an air conditioning maintenance crew to access the building early on Thursday.

Rickerd also reported that Alex Saebens, 17, was a fault due to a lane violation when his 1976 Chevy Malibu collided head-on into a Nissan driven by Macy Hlavaty, 23, at 1:18 p.m. Friday on Cuba Street near Peters Street. Police said Hlavaty, 23, was cited for driving with a suspended license.

As Hlavaty approached Peters traveling west, Saebens was heading north on Cuba when he skidded across the centerline attempting to make the 90-degree right-hand curve onto Springfield. Neither was injured.

“He crossed the centerline of traffic and hit her head-on,” said Rickerd. “He was at fault for a lane violation. He came around the curve too fast, went into the other lane, and hit her head-on.”

Owensville fire and ambulance personnel were called to the scene to assist.

Rickerd reported that a van reported stolen overnight on June 17-18 was apparently borrowed by the friend of the relative who the van’s owner was visiting and driven to Belle.

Police said a visiting relative at an undisclosed East Madison Avenue residence awoke to find the van missing. The group had be drinking the night before.

The friend found the van’s keys in the door and said he “borrowed” the vehicle to go to Belle, said Owensville police.
