Even though judging was contained within the city limits of Gerald,
a good number of houses were still considered in the annual Gerald
Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lighting Contest.
“We drove through the city limits and looked at between 50 and 70 houses for consideration in the contest this year,” Chamber President Brian Rooney said.
Rooney also cited some possible reasons for a lesser number of houses being judged and that no out-of-town houses were called in to the Chamber. “Perhaps it the electric rates or the economy in general,” Rooney said. “Despite those potential factors, there were a lot of well-decorated houses for us to judge this year.” Out of the nearly 70 homes considered in judging, four were awarded cash prizes for first place, second place, third place and honorable mention. Taking first place was the Chad Weirich home at 652 Lincoln Drive in Gerald. Finishing second was the Chris Landolt home located off of Route Y at 301 N. Pointe. Estate Dr. Rich Weber’s home at 821 W. Springfield Ave. came in third place and Gary Miller’s home at 705 Walnut St. received honorable mention. Rooney and the Chamber would like thank all of the participating households for their efforts in the contest this year.
