In their third and final home meet/tournament of the 2009-10 season, Rod Barndollar’s Dutchmen grapplers looked to end the home schedule on a winning note.
Last Thursday, the Dutchmen welcomed St. James’ Tigers and Pacific’s Indians to OHS for a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) tri-meet. ![]() Ethan Fernau has his St. James opponent pinned to the mat during Owensville’s final home wrestling meet of the 2009-10 season last Thursday. Down 41-29 in the meet with two matches left, 215-pound Dutchmen senior Paul Baldwin won his match by pinfall and junior heavyweight Jake Hinson won by walkover to tie the dual at 41-41. Going down to the tie-breaker for most first points in a match, Owensville held a 3-2 advantage there and ultimately won the match on criteria giving the Dutchmen their first dual win over Pacific in the Rod Barndollar era of OHS wrestling. Before the Dutchmen faced St. James, eight senior wrestlers were honored for the hard work and dedication to Owensville wrestling. Those included Jack Saebens, Alex Saebens, Joel Littrell, Devin Floyd, Gabe Hollander, Aaron Pohlmann and Paul Baldwin. Winning four straight bouts to end the match, OHS defeated St. James by a final count of 45-24. It was reported Saturday at the Richmond Tournament that Hollander and Saebens both won championships in their respective weight classes. Results from meets at Blair Oaks and OHS last week along with the Richmond Tournament Saturday were not available at press time. Once those results are obtained, they will be published in a future issue of The Republican.
