Allegedly caught cooking methamphetamine in a cramped hotel room with his children present, a Gerald man now faces federal meth-related charges for an incident in January at the Stanton Motel.

According to published accounts, Daniel R. McMahan, 41, was originally charged in Franklin County with four counts of child endangerment and two counts of possessing chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

A federal grand jury has indicted McMahan on charges of one count each of knowingly manufacturing methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine on a premises where a person under the age of 18 was present, knowingly creating a substantial risk to human life and using a hotel room for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine. This is according to Detective Sgt. Jason Grellner, commander of the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit (FCNEU).

Last Thursday, McMahan was transferred into federal custody from the Franklin County Jail.
