What can (Hayden) Brown do for the Dutchmen? He can lead the Dutchmen to a game one victory over Wentzville’s Stallions in Summer League action at Memorial Field from last Thursday by an 11-4 score.![]() Hayden Brown eyes the plate as he fires a pitch for the Dutchmen in Summer league action against Wentzville’s Stallions last Thursday night at Memorial Field. Owensville swept the doubleheader by scores of 11-4 in game one and 11-8 in the nightcap After pitching around a one-out walk in the top of the first inning, Brown helped his own cause by doubling and scoring in the bottom of the first. Other Dutchmen that scored in the inning included Matt Jett, Ryan Cooper and Gabe Hollander. Owensville took a 4-0 lead after one inning. Brown pitched around two more walks in the second inning as Owensville maintained their 4-0 lead through two innings of action. Third-inning action saw Brown help himself again by walking and scoring in the bottom of the inning. This was after he retired the Stallions in order in the top of the third. Owensville carried a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning. As the fourth inning went scoreless, Wentzville got on the board in the top of the fifth with two runs on three hits and two errors to cut the Dutchmen lead to 5-2. Owensville answered in the bottom of the fifth as Hollander (triple) and Ethan Joers (hit by pitch) both scored after reaching base to bump their lead back up to five runs at 7-2. Jett became the new Dutchmen hurler as sixth-inning action got underway. He pitched around two singles and a hit batter to allow only one run in the inning by the Stallions. The Dutchmen quickly answered with four runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the sixth. Owensville went into the seventh inning with an 11-3 cushion. Thanks to a double play, Jett was able to finish the game in relief of Brown as Owensville took game one of the twinbill by an 11-4 margin. Other Dutchmen with multi-hit games were Dakota DeBroeck and Kris Havelka. Havelka got the starting nod in game two as the Dutchmen were going for their first doubleheader sweep of the Summer. With help from the bullpen, Owensville was able to secure their first twinbill sweep of the Summer with an 11-8 victory in the nightcap. After serving as the home team in game one, the Dutchmen were the visiting team in game two. Owensville got off to a good start as Jett and Cooper both scored to give the Dutchmen an early 2-0 lead. Havelka made the lead stand by pitching around back-to-back two-out singles. Joel Littrell and Tyler Ahring joined the scoring spree as the Dutchmen added five runs on five hits to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the second. Havelka continued his solid pitching performance through the second and third innings by allowing just two Stallion baserunners. Nick Cuchetti joined the hit parade with a leadoff single in the top of the fourth to start a two-run inning and give the Dutchmen a 9-0 lead. Wentzville awoke from their hibernation in the bottom of the fourth as six hits, three walks and a hit batter led to eight runs and the Dutchmen lead nearly lost as they went into the fifth inning leading 9-8. In relief of Havelka, Joers pitched a scoreless fifth inning despite Wentzville loading the bases on two walks and a base hit. Insurance tallies were welcome in the top of the sixth as Cooper and DeBroeck both crossed the plate to give the Dutchmen an 11-8 lead. Another call to the bullpen was made and Cooper took over the pitching duties in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pitching around a single and hit batter with two outs, Cooper staved off the Stallion rally and kept the Owensville lead at 11-8. Pitching around a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh, Cooper retired the next three batters to collect his first save of the Summer and compete a doubleheader sweep for Owensville. Joers paced the Dutchmen in game two with three hits. Also having multi-hit games were Jett, Brown, Cooper, Littrell, Ahring and Havelka. Owensville will return to action on Thursday, June 19 against Washington at Dutzow Park. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 6 p.m. The Dutchmen will also compete in the West Plains Tournament this weekend as details on those games will be available in next weeks Republican.
