Area cancer survivors take the first lap at Dutchmen Field on Friday to kick off the fourth annual Owensville Area Relay For Life. Landon Ely (left) and his brother, Ryan (right) play hide-and-seek with each other while their father, Glenn, was speaking on being a cancer caregiver. Mother Nature also played a part in the Relay as lightning and heavy rain caused the event to be scratched at around 2 a.m., Saturday, after teams and participants were sent into the high school at around midnight when the weather turned for the worse. No final tally for money raised was available by press time. However, according to Relay For Life Chairperson Barb Faegan, approximately $48,000 was raised when the event was called off and more money is still coming in with $50,000 being a realistic target.
