Two weekend accidents sent two Leslie residents to St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, according to accident reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

On the morning of Saturday, Aug. 16, at around 11:25 a.m., Lyndon M. Kassebaum, 24, of Leslie, was eastbound on Route YY three miles west of Route A on a 2002 Kawasaki VN800-E motorcycle. Reports stated that Kassebaum began braking for a stopped vehicle which caused his vehicle to roll over and come to a stop in the roadway.

Kassebaum was wearing his helmet and sustained moderate injuries in the accident as he was taken to St. John’s by Washington ambulance personnel.
The next evening, a three-vehicle accident sent the driver and passenger of one vehicle to the hospital.

At 7:25 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 17, a 1993 GMC Sierra truck driven by Lawrence B. Brown, 28, of Robertsville, Mo., was westbound on U.S. 50 one-tenth of a mile west of East Casco Road. Also heading eastbound on U.S. 50 were a 2001 Ford F250 truck driven by Donald E. Mahacek, 71, of St. Louis and a 2007 Ford F350 truck driven by Scott A. Phinney, 42, of Maryland Heights, Mo.

According to the report, the accident occurred as Brown was crossed the center line and struck a trailer being towed by Mahacek’s truck. Brown then traveled back into the westbound lane and lost control striking the front of Phinney’s truck.

Brown and a passenger, Cameo D. Collins, 25, of Leslie, were taken to St. John’s in Creve Couer and St. John’s in Washington respectively. Both injured parties were not wearing their seatbelts according to the patrol.
