Retired Hallsville R-4 Superintendent Tom Baugh was hired last Tuesday as a consultant to the Gasconade County R-2 School District. Baugh will be paid $50 per hour for consulting plus mileage. He will assist the R-2 Board of Education until it hires a new superintendent for the 2009-10 school year or on special projects. Bough’s employment was made on a 7-0 vote following a motion by Gary Pohlmann and a second by George Stratman, according to unofficial minutes from the Aug. 12 meeting. Action came following a 50-minute closed session. Minutes will be approved when the board meets again on Monday, Aug. 25. R-2 will also use help from the Missouri School Board Association in a search for a superintendent. The board also gave 7-0 approval to a revised code of conduct for students in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Tim Ley and David Lottmann made a motion and second respectively to approve the new drug testing policy for student extracurricular activities which do not include provisions for grades be included. The policy on drug testing was approved 7-0. Activities included in drug testing are all athletics and cheerleading groups, Art Club, Math and Science Club, Student Council, Scholar Bowl, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Speech Team, and Future Teachers of America.
