Three fatalities, five people injured in accidents this week
A Beaufort man, Derek J. King, 19, and two Union men, James T. Curran, 19, and Cole W. Weddle, 18, were all killed in a traffic accident early Thursday, June 6. Two others suffered serious injuries.
A 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Curran was traveling southbound on Porterford Road near Cardinal Lane, south of Union. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, striking a culvert and a tree.
Curran and King were pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Medical examiner Russell Rost at 2:34 a.m. Weddle died at Mercy Hospital St. Louis at 6:50 a.m.
SWAT team conducts training in old funeral home
Franklin County’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team came to Gerald last Wednesday to conduct rehearsal drills in the former Oltmann Funeral Home building.
