COLUMBIA - After a long second day from the 82nd MSHSAA Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena, Dutchmen sophomore AJ Harrell was the only Owensville grappler left standing.

Earlier in the day, Harrell clinched his place on the medal stand with a quarterfinal win at 182 pounds over MICDS senior Peter Schlafly by technical fall, 18-2. Awaiting the Dutchmen sophomore in the semifinals was a familiar foe in Bolivar senior Aaron Allen.

Losing a hard-fought match by a 6-5 decision, Harrell will now wrestle tomorrow morning (Saturday) against Fulton's Paul Books to determine whether he will wrestle for third or fifth place at 182 pounds.

Second-round wrestleback action earlier today (Friday) saw freshman Matt Pohlmann stay alive at 113 pounds with a win by fall in 3:29 over De Soto sophomore Cody Dedear. Standing between Pohlmann and a state medal was Chillicothe freshman Kyler Sewell. Battling throughout the match, the OHS freshman saw his season end with a 7-0 loss to Sewell.

Dutchmen senior heavyweight Kaleb Collins looked to move one step closer to a medal at 285 pounds against Lafayette-St. Joseph junior Spencer Riddle. Fighting through a tough first period, Collins saw his Dutchmen wrestling career end by fall in 2:20. Finishing with an overall record of 35-14, the Dutchmen senior went out as a state qualifier.
